Best Lenovo Laptops 2025: Top 5 Picks for Students & Gamers

Let’s be honest—shopping for a Lenovo laptop is confusing. You go to their website, and suddenly you’re staring at a dozen different brands. Yoga? Legion? ThinkPad? IdeaPad? They all look great, but figuring out which one actually fits your life is a headache.

Lenovo is easily one of my favorite manufacturers because they genuinely have something for everyone, but that variety is a double-edged sword.

I’ve spent some time looking at the 2025 lineup, and I’ve narrowed it down to the top 5 models. If you are looking to buy a new machine this year, one of these is almost certainly the right pick for you.

1. The "I Need to Get Work Done" Pick: ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Gen 13)

If money isn't a major issue and you just need the best Windows laptop for business, this is it. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon has been the king of the boardroom for years, and the 13th Gen doesn't change the formula too much—it just perfects it.

The main reason I love this machine is the weight. It’s incredibly light (under 1kg), but it doesn't feel cheap or plastic. It feels like a tank. And, of course, there’s the keyboard. If you type all day for a living, you know that nothing beats the travel and click of a ThinkPad keyboard. The only downside here is the price; you are definitely paying a "business tax" for the brand name. But if you value reliability over everything else, it’s worth every penny.

2. The Budget Champion: IdeaPad Slim 5i (Gen 9)

Let’s get real—most of us don’t have $2,000 to drop on a laptop. If you are a student or you just need a laptop for home use (Netflix, emails, some light office work), the IdeaPad Slim 5i is the one I usually recommend to friends.

What surprises me about this laptop is that it doesn’t feel like a budget machine. It has an aluminum body that feels cold to the touch, and it’s thin enough to slide into any backpack. You aren't getting a 4K screen or the world's fastest processor, but for under $800, the value here is insane. It’s the Honda Civic of laptops: reliable, affordable, and gets the job done without complaining.

3. For the Hardcore Gamers: Lenovo Legion Pro 7i

If you want to play Cyberpunk or Call of Duty at max settings, ignore the other laptops on this list and look at the Legion Pro 7i.

Lenovo has quietly taken over the gaming space recently. A few years ago, everyone wanted Alienware or Razer, but the Legion series is just better value right now. This thing is an absolute beast. The cooling is fantastic (which means your lap won't catch on fire), and the screen is buttery smooth with a high refresh rate.

Just a warning, though: "Portable" is a strong word for this. It’s heavy, and the power brick is massive. This is basically a desktop computer that you can technically put in a backpack.

4. The Artist’s Choice: Yoga 9i 2-in-1

If you care about aesthetics—if you want your laptop to look as good as an invalid MacBook—the Yoga 9i is the prettiest laptop Lenovo makes.

It has these rounded, shiny edges that look like jewelry, and the screen is a gorgeous 4K OLED panel. The colors just pop. Since it’s a 2-in-1, you can fold it back and use it as a tablet, and it actually comes with a pen in the box (I hate when companies make you buy the stylus separately).

The battery life isn't amazing because that high-res screen drains power, but if you are an illustrator or just love watching movies in bed, this is the best experience you'll get.

5. The "Sleeper" Hit: ThinkBook 16p Gen 5

This is the laptop nobody talks about, but everyone should. The ThinkBook sits right in the weird middle ground between the consumer stuff and the business stuff.

I call this the "Mullet" of laptops: Business in the front, party in the back. It looks like a boring office laptop, so you can take it to a meeting without raising eyebrows. But inside, it has powerful specs that can actually handle video editing and even some gaming.

If you are a content creator who needs power but you don't want a laptop that looks like a glowing spaceship, this is a really smart compromise.

So, which one?

If you want my personal opinion: If you're a student, get the IdeaPad. If you have the cash and want quality, get the ThinkPad. And if you just want to have fun, grab the Legion.

Let me know in the comments—are you Team ThinkPad or Team Legion?
